IPAD BATTERY CHARGING

The iPad can be charged up in a number of different ways although the supplied 10W USB Charger is the fastest way to charge the iPad.

An icon in the upper-right corner of the iPad screen shows battery charging status and approximately how much charge is left in the battery. If you charge the battery while syncing or using the iPad, it can take longer to charge.

Included 10W USB Charger

The fastest way to charge the iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. It takes about three hours of charge time to power an iPad to 80% capacity, then another three hours to fully charge it, if you are not using the iPad while charging.

High-Power USB Port

The iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port. Most recent Mac and some newer PC computers are supplied with high-power USB ports.

Ensure the computer is on while charging the iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that's turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

Charging using a high-power USB port will take approximately 8 hours to get to 80% and a further 6 hours to charge to 100%.

Standard USB Port

When attached to a computer via a standard USB port the iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode. Most PCs or older Mac computers have standard USB ports as standard.

Make sure the computer is on while charging the iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that's turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

iPhone Charger

The iPad can be charged using an iPhone Power Adapter, however it will charge more slowly than the supplied 10W Power adaptor.

Charging to 80% takes around 5.5 hours and to 100% a further 4 hours.

Additional Information

If iPad is very low on power, it may display one of the following images indicating that the device needs to charge for up to ten minutes before you can use it. If the device is extremely low on power, the display may be blank for up to two minutes before one of the low-battery images appears. If you don't see the white charging or plug icons, try connecting to the 10W power adapter.

iPad Battery Status

Note: Some USB 2.0 ports and accessories do not provide enough power to charge iPad. When this occurs the message "Not Charging" appears in the status bar next to the battery icon.
